The service sector has an important role to play...in solving the climate jigsaw puzzle.
The Danish Chamber of Commerce member companies have a part to play in future climate solutions. The Danish service sector has a range of capabilities that are ideal for future investment, such as CO2-neutral hotels, scrap metal recycling and software solutions that minimise heat and water consumption.
The Danish Chamber of Commerce hereby invites the international press to take part in a climate tour on 9 December during the COP15 conference. This tour into the future will take us to three companies, each with a unique approach to sustainable climate solutions.
New energy-efficient super hotel
The recently completed Copenhagen Towers, located in Copenhagen’s newest district, Orestad City, is home to The Crowne Plaza, the fi rst hotel in Denmark run exclusively on energy from renewable energy sources. The CO2-neutral hotel fully complies with both the Danish low energy class II standards and the EU Green Building certification criteria.
”The hotel facades that face the sun are covered with solar cells, and that alone can save us approximately 170,000 kWh a year, which corresponds to the electricity consumption of 35 households. We are facing a climate challenge that we must take seriously and that’s why this building refl ects common sense in every way,” says Allan Agerholm, Hotel Manager.
One more time
Family-run H.J. Hansen Recycling Ltd. is based in Hans Christian Andersen’s home town, Odense. The company has published a book entitled One More Time, which focuses on how recycling ferrous and non-ferrous scrap metal benefi ts the climate.
”Recycling scrap metal was once a matter of saving raw materials, but today climate concerns are just as important. Processing and melting down aluminium, for example, requires only fi ve percent of the energy required to obtain the same amount of material from underground. It is therefore vital to think recycling into future climate solutions,” explains CEO Jens Hempel-Hansen.
Reduces water and heat waste
On an old farm in picturesque North Zealand, 7-Technologies (7T) develops software solutions for the future. The environment has always been a key factor for the company when developing software products. With its philosophy of transparency and actionable insight, 7T provides its clients with software that ensures reliability, effi ciency, cost reduction and energy optimisation.
”7T’s AQUIS software optimises the water distribution network, reducing leakages and improving water quality. Over the years, AQUIS has been a driving force in securing high-quality drinking water in Denmark and several other cities around the globe. Another 7T product, the TERMIS software package, optimises district heating networks, enabling plants to run much more effi ciently, reducing heat loss, fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. TERMIS ‘provides reliable heating for more than 100 million homes around the globe’,” says CEO Jens Krogh Løppenthien.
